Madrid Content City, the film studio complex that is currently under construction in the municipality of Tres Cantos, has already started work on phases 2 and 3. In total, when this massive infrastructure is concluded in 2022, it will cover 140,000 m² and include production spaces, services for film shoots, the university campus, offices, a restaurant and shopping area, sports and leisure facilities and an auditorium with capacity for over 250 people, among other amenities.

The production hub promoted by the Roots corporate group, with 100% Spanish capital, is aiming to become the second largest in Europe after Pinewood (United Kingdom), overtaking Cinecittà in Rome, Babelsberg in Germany and Cité du Cinema in France. For its part, Roots aspires to become the world's leading Spanish group in the management of audiovisual centers. The aim of the Secuoya Group, which is responsible for its management, is to increase the number of international film shoots currently carried out in Spain threefold.

Five studios in operation
The first phase of Madrid Content City is already operational, with three studios of 1,200 m² and two of 1500 m². The second phase will have twice as many sets, although in an even larger total area, as there will be four sets of 1500 m² and one of 2000 m². These characteristics will mean that when they are completed in early 2021, it will be possible to develop around ten large-scale productions simultaneously, independently and concurrently.

At 14 m, the studios are the highest in Europe today, placing them on a par with the best facilities in Europe and the United States. They meet the most demanding noise-canceling and noise insulation standards, fiber-optic connections guarantee the workflow in 4K HDR, and the electricity supply is sufficient to meet the needs of any top level production. They also include amenities such as dressing rooms with natural light, television, bathroom, shower and rest area, all with the highest levels of sustainability.

Planned end of the works
The third phase, which has also begun construction, includes university facilities and a retail area that is expected to become operational in September 2021. The rest of the works will be concluded in the second half of 2022, and will be provided with everything its investors consider necessary to transform Madrid into the epicenter of the industry and of business development. The total investment will be 102 million euros.

Raúl Berdonés, CEO of the Secuoya Group, said at the event to mark the laying of the foundation stone: “Tax incentives for international productions have been instrumental in appealing to international production companies to film in Spain due to the current working conditions they can find here; so much so that we believe it will triple international filming in Spain, with everything that entails and the potential impact on the economy both directly and indirectly”.
