Brazilian startup Gympass buys Andjoy in European expansion

The Catalan platform has 2,200 associated centres and 400 corporate clients such as Glovo and Iberdrola

The Brazilian gym and wellness app network Gympass has reached an agreement with French company Sodexo to acquire two apps that will expand its commercial presence in Europe. Andjoy in Spain and 7Card in Romania are thus now part of the startup, which presents itself as the world's largest corporate wellness platform.

Spanish platform Andjoy, founded in Barcelona in 2013, will give a strong boost to the presence of its new owner in Spain. The Catalan platform currently has 2,200 associated centres and over 400 corporate clients, including Glovo and Iberdrola.

Strong market presence
When it was created, Andjoy was one of the first corporate wellness platforms in Spain, and its purpose was to put gyms in contact with their clients. Its strong presence in the market clearly reinforces Gympass's rollout, especially in Barcelona. The alliance also strengthens its customer base and the offer available to users.

The operation also includes the acquisition of 7Card, a leader in the Romanian wellness market, with over 1,000 corporate clients and more than 600 partner centres. Sodexo has divested itself of the two companies but is not removing them from its offer. The acquisition contract includes a commercial agreement whereby Sodexo will be able to offer the Gympass platform to its clients worldwide. It will do so in Spain, Romania and the United Kingdom in the first phase.

A very similar vision
These acquisitions build on our exciting evolution, expanding our business in Europe as we continue to grow around the world," said Cesar Carvalho, co-founder and CEO of Gympass, adding: "Andjoy will enable us to offer an even better service to our customers in Spain and we see Romania as an exceptional opportunity to expand and revolutionise the wellness market there."

For his part, Andjoy's Operations Director, Javier Calderero, is very excited to be part of the Gympass journey, and explains: "We have a very similar vision for the future and our customers and partners will no doubt see the benefits of working with us together. With this acquisition we will reach new audiences and keep growing, removing barriers to activity and promoting healthy habits."
