Hive Energy to build green hydrogen production plant in Spain

It will use Hevo Solar technology developed by Fusion Fuel to reduce production costs

The British renewable energy developer, Hive Energy, will develop and build a green hydrogen production plant using the pioneering electrolysis technology developed by the Portuguese company Fusion Fuel. Hevo Solar uses solar energy based on micro electrolysis to significantly reduce the cost of green hydrogen production.

Apart from this project, which is in the administrative processing phase, Hive Energy has a 3 GW portfolio of projects in Spain for green hydrogen and ammonia production. All of these projects are currently under development and will supply the growing demand in the market.

Innovative process
Hive Energy CEO, Giles Redpath, commented on the new technology, “We are thrilled to be able to partner with such an innovative renewable process that we can learn and benefit from. I hope that this project is the start of an on-going partnership with Fusion Fuel that will allow us to continue creating suitable and efficient green hydrogen production.”

João Wahnon, for his part, Fusion Fuel’s Head of Business Development said, “We are excited to announce this first project with Hive Energy in Spain, where the parties can harness the excellent solar resource to drive high yields from our Hevo Solar technology. We trust this project will be a first step on the road to a very significant joint portfolio of green hydrogen production plants with Hive Energy.”

Key partner
Apart from developing plants, Hive Energy is a leading developer and partner for operators and industrial and logistics clients in the implementation of decarbonisation and energy transition strategies. It also develops solar energy projects and circular economy solutions for the innovative transformation and reuse of waste.

The electrolyser solution patented by Fusion Fuel allows the production of hydrogen at highly competitive costs by using renewable energy. In addition to the sale of electrolyser technology, the company develops hydrogen plants that it  owns and operates directly. It will also actively manage these assets and the sale of green hydrogen as a commodity for end users through long-term hydrogen purchase agreements.
