Teva to expand Zaragoza plant production by 21% over five years

60% of the plant’s production is earmarked for export, and it will gain 70 new employees
Israeli pharmaceutical company Teva has moved forward with a plan at its Zaragoza plant to implement a 21% production increase by 2027. The project will create jobs and is expected to increase the plant’s workforce by 70 new workers over the next five years. 556 people currently work at the factory and its logistics centre, a figure that increases to 900 employees if the other positions and commercial teams are included.
The plant's Director, Antonio Cabodevilla, explained the project’s aim, “Our intention is to continue our growth. We have a plan to implement by 2027 with the clear objective of increasing our production, creating jobs and attracting more investment. We are doing this with a strong commitment to patients and to our employees.”
Outstanding technology
Teva's Zaragoza site specialises in producing oral solid dosage forms and stands out for the technology it uses to manufacture pellets, capsules and tablets. The facility currently manufactures 30 molecules and 1,800 different formulations, which will result in the production of 7.1 billion doses this year.
From its Spanish headquarters, the company has emphasised the extraordinary extent of its current production capacity, which has been growing since 2016. The new plan demonstrates the Israeli company's commitment to Zaragoza and Spain, and will also involve a significant investment. With 20,000 square metres of production facilities and a total floor space of 32,000 square metres, the plant not only manufactures medicinal products for Spain: 60% of its production is exported to countries all over the world.
International distribution
As Juan Carlos Conde, Teva's General Manager for Spain and Portugal, pointed out, “The industrial operations centre in Zaragoza is key for developing and distributing the company's medicines internationally. Teva Spain and Europe are proud to have such a centre, which reaffirms the importance of local production to ensure good access to medicines for patients.”
Two laboratories assist the factory by supporting the Quality Control team. One is a microbiological laboratory and the other specialises in stability, analytical validation and process improvement. The brand is in addition committed to production and environmental sustainability.
