NetEase Games opens video game studio in Barcelona

The Chinese company has opened a recruitment process for an innovative 3D project

Video game producer NetEase Games has opened a studio in Barcelona and begun recruiting its team. This opening, referred to by the Chinese company as “exciting” news, is part of its current expansion strategy, which also includes several acquisitions in the sector in recent months.

The decision to open this new studio is also due to the boom in the video game industry in the Catalan capital, which the company describes as one of the biggest cities in Europe. This is, in fact, NetEase Games’ second office on the continent, after their office in the United Kingdom, which it established in 2019 to focus on commercial development. According to the job openings posted, the company will launch a new, innovative 3D action project in Barcelona.

Known talent
Although it hasn’t provided any names, NetEase says that the talent working in the studio will include well-known video game creators who have experience in launches for major consoles, PCs and mobile phones. The company works in all disciplines of game development, including art, engineering, design, production and quality control.

The job offers include the positions of art director, artificial intelligence designer and senior game programmer. The company states that candidates will play “an essential role in a new, innovative project, working alongside a talented team that is passionate about developing an original game that will surprise, delight and attract players”.

Content incubator
NetEase Games is NetEase’s games division, and it develops and operates some of the most popular games for PC and mobile phones in markets such as China and Japan. Additionally, it hopes to position itself as one of the largest high-quality video game content incubators in the world. With this goal in mind, it backs the growth of innovative studios to increase its international presence.

The Asian company has also joined up with international game developers to complement its own production and research and development capabilities. In addition to creating gaming experiences, it aims to merge technology with culture and education to help make its games educational as well as entertaining.
