Samsung creates more than 17,500 jobs in Spain in 2022

This includes indirect and induced jobs, and represents a 10.4% increase compared with 2021

The report on Samsung's socio-economic, tax and environmental impact in Spain in 2022, which was produced by consultancy firm PwC, includes good news in terms of employment and the company's contribution to GDP and tax revenue. The business activities of the South Korean company’s Spanish subsidiary generated 359 new direct jobs, and contributed to the creation of 3,284 indirect jobs, 11,336  jobs created in a pull effect and 2,569 induced jobs.

A total of 17,548 jobs related to Samsung Electronics Iberia were created and maintained in 2022. This is 10.4% more than in 2021, and the highest figure in the last six years. Indirect jobs are those created by the company's spending and investments in Spain. 1,639 of these were in the advertising and market research industry, 325 in electronic equipment repair and 246 in security and administrative services.

Jobs created in a pull effect and induced employment
The more than eleven thousand jobs created by a pull effect are in the retail industry, and correspond to sales of the company's products in commercial establishments throughout the country. This type of employment grew by 11.5% in 2022 for Samsung Spain. Induced jobs were mainly created in the retail, wholesale and hospitality industries.

The total number of jobs generated in 2022 means that every new direct job created by the company created 49 full-time equivalent jobs in Spain. The grand total of more than 17,500 jobs represents 32% of the direct jobs generated by the Spanish air transport industry.

Knowledge-based GDP
The report also highlights Samsung's importance in knowledge-based GDP, a technique that quantifies the economic value produced thanks to the knowledge accumulated both by employees and through the technology used. On that basis, the company helped generate 79.4 million euros of knowledge-intensive economic value in 2022, 8.7% more than in the previous year.

Lastly, the report breaks down Samsung's economic contribution to Spanish GDP, which totalled 818 million euros, 74.3 million more than in 2021. The company's direct contribution was 90.2 million euros, to which we must add an additional indirect contribution of 159.4 million derived from spending with domestic suppliers and 401.1 million from the pull effect of GDP  contribution stemming from product sales. A further 167.2 million was generated thanks to induced contribution to GDP.
