Archroma strengthens Barcelona plant, world benchmark for group

The company is investing 20 million euros to boost capacity and create 30 new jobs.

The chemical company Archroma, which specialises in manufacturing products for the paper, packaging and textile industries, will invest 20 million euros in its plant in El Prat de Llobregat (Barcelona) over the next three years. With this operation, it aims to increase its production volume by an additional 32,000 tonnes per year. This growth in capacity will be accompanied by the creation of 30 new jobs.

The plan to strengthen the production and logistics capacity of the El Prat de Llobregat plant coincides with the fiftieth anniversary of these facilities being celebrated. Since it started operations in 1974, this factory has become a benchmark for the group, and has even played a crucial role in the Swiss company's expansion throughout Europe.

One of the group's largest factories in the world
The Catalan plant is one of the largest of Archroma's 30 factories worldwide. It employs 325 of the 4,500 people who make up its global workforce, to which the 30 new recruits announced will soon be added. It currently has an annual production capacity of 70,000 tonnes. Eighty percent is exported to European markets, and the rest is destined for the Iberian Peninsula. Once the announced investment plan is implemented, its capacity will exceed 100,000 tonnes per year.

Archroma Packaging Technologies CEO Sameer Singla says: “We are proud of our history of serving the European market through the El Prat plant and of our commitment to our regional customers in the industry. Our continued investment in the region demonstrates our unwavering dedication to our customers and our confidence in the growth prospects of the paper, packaging and textile markets in Europe. Our expansion offers the opportunity to add our other technologies to the production mix to offer a more comprehensive service to customers from the pulp, paper and packaging to the tissue and towel markets.”

Archroma manufactures speciality chemicals under two distinct businesses: Textile Effects and Packaging Technologies. Since its creation, the El Prat plant has supplied its products to the European market combining innovation, safety and care for the environment.
