Axel Johnson grows in Spain with one of largest acquisitions in group’s history

With 160 employees, Sevillian company Royse is the largest power transmission company in the Iberian market.

Industrial group Axel Johnson International has acquired a majority stake in Royse ISM Servicios Integrales, a supplier of power transmission products and services, with the aim of expanding its presence in the Spanish market. This operation is of great importance to the Swedish company, which describes it as one of the largest it has ever undertaken. It describes Royse as the largest power transmission company in the Iberian market.

Founded in Seville in 1979 by Juan Manuel Ortega, Royse is a family business that currently has fourteen branches and more than 160 employees in Spain. It has grown rapidly in the last twenty-five years since Juan Manuel Ortega Jr joined the business, and has become a major supplier to the power transmission sector throughout the country. In this new phase, it will become part of Power Transmission Solutions (PTS).

Operational and management structure
Royse specialises in bearings, transmissions, and value-added services. It ensures high product availability, skilled labour, and efficient logistics through its nationwide network. Once integrated into Axel Johnson International, it will continue to operate under its brand name and maintain its current operational and management structure. The founder and his son will continue at the company.

The most important sectors Royse works for in Spain are machinery, metal, textiles, food and beverages, and energy. Of these sectors, Spain's renewable energy sector has been identified by Axel Johnson International as a strategic growth area.

Shared values
PTS CEO Ola Sjölin explained, “Axel Johnson International and Royse are family businesses, so we quickly found common ground and a joint vision for the future. We are excited to embark on this journey as partners with shared ownership, and are committed to growth and success. With shared values, a strong customer focus, and a long-term vision, I believe this partnership will be truly beneficial and enriching for us both.

Juan Manuel Ortega Sr agreed, “As the founder of Royse, I am proud of what we have become over the past 45 years, and I am extremely confident that this alliance will further strengthen our presence in Spain and Portugal. My son and I will remain with the company and we are very excited about this partnership.”

His son, who has been with the company since 1998, added, "The fact that both companies are family-owned has been key to this partnership. It is essential for us that Royse maintains its identity and structure, and with this alliance we will have even more opportunities to expand in Spain and Portugal.”
