GAC opens second Spanish shipping agency in Huelva

The company wants to position itself strategically in the transport of dry and liquid bulk and gas.

The Emirati company GAC, specialised in maritime transport and logistics services, has opened its second Spanish office in the port of Huelva. The goal is to improve service to its customers in the shipping and energy industries. The opening does in addition enable it to strategically position itself to serve dry and liquid bulk customers and gas transporters in the area.

The specialised services that GAC Spain will provide from its new branch include ship agency services, administration, bunkering, customs clearance, crew change support and transport services, especially ship spares logistics.

Renewable energy
This expansion of GAC's presence and activities in Spain comes less than a year after the opening of its first office in Spain, in the port of Algeciras (Cadiz). It was in November 2023 that the shipping agent began providing services in Spain's largest port to serve ships passing through the Strait of Gibraltar and to support the country's growing renewable energy industry.

As managing director of GAC Spain Sergio Delatorre explained, "As infrastructure development for both green hydrogen and renewable energy continues to gain momentum in southern Spain, our presence in both Huelva and Algeciras becomes increasingly important to support our customers".

Port traffic
The port of Huelva is the second largest in Andalusia and one of the top ten in Spain in terms of port traffic. In the first quarter of this year, it recorded freight traffic of more than 7.8 million tonnes of goods, an increase of 7.71% compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, the movement of bulk liquids increased by 9.16% during the same period to over 6 million tonnes, a figure that positions this infrastructure as a key energy hub for both conventional and renewable fuels.

Delatorre says his company is committed "to supporting our shipowner and ship management customers wherever they go. Now, with enhanced capabilities, we are better positioned than ever to serve them in true GAC style, leveraging our global reach and local knowledge to support their strategic objectives."
