Animation studio Gigglebug Entertainment sets up shop in Canaries

The Finnish company is opening an office in the Gran Canaria Science Park and will expand its team to 150 people.

The Finnish animation studio Gigglebug Entertainment has chosen the island of Gran Canaria to strengthen its 2D production capacity in Europe. The new office, located in the Gran Canaria Science Park, will complement the company's Helsinki office. It does as a result plan to expand its team from the current 100 employees to 150, supplementing local talent by attracting other professionals from around the world.

From its new facility, Gigglebug Entertainment will continue its current projects for clients like Disney, Nickelodeon and Warner Bros. The company creates, develops and produces original content and provides animation services to broadcasters and digital platforms worldwide. Founded in 2013, it has also expanded its intellectual property into video games, books, music, live events and consumer products.

Warm and supportive culture
Two geographical extremes of Europe have come together through the work of Gigglebug. Company officials find the same warm and supportive culture in the Canaries as they do in the Finnish capital, “but combined with year-round sunshine”, as well as the most competitive tax policy on the continent, a vibrant culture, stunning nature, delicious food and unlimited beaches, to name but a few advantages.

As part of its candidate selection process, Gigglebug offers its future employees flexible working hours and other benefits. For those who want to relocate to Gran Canaria or Helsinki to join the team, it offers up to two weeks’ accommodation and personalised support with permits, taxes and banking.

Feature films, series and digital content
The new Canary Islands studio began operations in early October. This new facility will support the three production lines: feature films, television series and digital content for third parties. In addition to children's content, the company began producing animated content for adults in 2023.

Recent projects include The Unstoppable Yellow Yeti and 101 Dalmatian Street for Disney, Best & Bester for Nickelodeon and The Last Kids on Earth for Atomic Cartoons, and the film Merry Little Batman for Warner Bros Animation.
