Hello Watt chooses Spain to start international expansion

The company is launching an electricity consumption monitoring application and announcing a solar panel installation service.
The Hello Watt platform has announced the start of operations in Spain as the first step in its internationalisation. The French company, which launched an electricity and gas supplier comparison tool in Spain over two years ago, is now launching its mobile application on the Spanish market, and will gradually begin to provide its solar panel installation service.
The headquarters of Hello Watt's Spanish subsidiary is located in Valencia, a city chosen for its “economic dynamism, exceptional quality of life and potential for qualified talent”. 20 people already work at these offices and, according to the company's forecasting, the team will grow to 100 employees by the end of 2025. Although there will be French employees, special emphasis will be placed on recruiting Spanish talent.
Choice of Spain
Several reasons support the choice of Spain as the country for taking the first step in Hello Watt's international expansion. The company’s mobile application, which makes it possible to monitor, understand and optimise electricity consumption, responds to a need it has identified in the Spanish market, given that the price per kilowatthour under the regulated tariff is constantly changing.
As far as its solar panel installation service is concerned, the company sees high potential since, at present, only 1.2% of homes have solar panels despite the hours of daylight that Spain enjoys. According to the company’s data, this is due to the reluctance of individuals to invest, especially because of the delay in subsidies being paid and because electricity prices are relatively low compared to other European countries.
Practical and efficient solutions
By launching this application, the company will not only help to track consumption, but will be able to provide significant savings with practical and efficient solutions. Faced with a fragmented market with numerous offerings, the app tries to help consumers who find it difficult to analyse the various options. Thanks to smart meters being installed in many households, data from these is easily accessible and used in real time.
It has been a year since Hello Watt closed an investment round totalling 12 million euros, after launching its application on the French market. It is now starting its internationalisation to transfer its experience to other European countries, starting with Spain.
