Primark continues 100-million-euro investment plan in Spain

The company will continue to grow and plans to create around 1,000 new jobs

Primark will open its 61st store in Spain this week, which is located in Madrid's La Vaguada shopping centre. This opening, leading to the creation of200 new jobs, is part of the investment plan announced by the Irish company in November 2022. The Madrid store is the fifth of the eight planned, and for which, together with an extension, a budget of 80 million euros has been earmarked.

The investment also includes 20 million euros allocated for renovating and improving existing establishments. In total, the company expects to create around 1,000 new jobs by opening these new stores, increasing its total number of employees in Spain to 10,000. These include full-time and part-time positions, and roles ranging from sales assistants to department heads.

Self-service tills
The new Madrid store will have over 5,750 square metres of display and sales space, spread over two floors. As a novelty for the brand in Spain, it will have 23 self-service tills that will complement the traditional ones.

Primark's General Director for Spain and Portugal, Carlos Inacio, said a few days ago, “We are looking forward to opening our new Primark store in La Vaguada. Primark is now a well-known brand in Madrid, and we are excited to be opening our ninth store in the Madrid region, which saw our arrival in Spain in 2006.”

Increased footfall
The Director of La Vaguada shopping centre, Javier Escusol, welcomed its new tenant, “With the addition of Primark, we are consolidating our commitment to retail excellence and confirming the attractiveness of the shopping centre to prestigious international brands. The renovation that is currently underway, together with the arrival of other major operators, already led to a significant increase in footfall during the last Christmas period. The opening of Primark promises to continue this trend.”

The last store launched by Primark in Spain opened its doors at the end of November in Lorca (Murcia). With the next ones – planned in Jaén, Alcalá de Henares (Madrid) and in Madrid itself, on Calle Conde de Peñalver – the Irish chain will complete its ambitious investment plan and will reach a total of 64 shops in Spain.
