Rubis Photosol bets on Spanish sun for international growth

The French company announces the acquisition of three solar PV projects totalling 30 megawatts

Rubis Photosol, a subsidiary of the Rubis Group, has announced the acquisition of three solar PV projects to accelerate its development strategy in Spain. With a cumulative capacity of 30 megawatts peak, this portfolio will produce the equivalent of the energy consumed by around 20,000 households each year.

The three solar parks are now ready for construction and are located in the municipality of Algorfa (Alicante). The French company expects them to be operational in the second half of 2025. This brings Rubis Photosol's portfolio of projects under development in Spain to a capacity of 300 megawatts peak.

New horizons
Specialised in the energy industry for over 30 years, the Rubis group has been supplying electricity in more than 40 countries. It is now diversifying its business to participate in the fight against climate change with less carbon-intensive solutions. Rubis Photosol, which was founded in 2008 and joined the group in 2022, is in turn looking for new horizons for growth after achieving a leading position in solar PV power production in France.

As Rubis’ Managing Partner, Clarisse Gobin-Swiecznik, explained, “These projects illustrate the group's strategy of developing renewable energy production to reach at least 25% of its EBITDA by 2030. These successes reward the expertise of the teams and attest to Rubis Photosol's competitiveness in these growing markets. We are very pleased with these new developments, which will enable the Rubis Group to become a major player in the renewable energy sector in Europe.”

Market share
Just before announcing its new growth strategy in Spain, Rubis Photosol was awarded 257 megawatts peak above ground in the latest tender by France's energy regulatory commission, paving the way for the construction of a 200-megawatt peak solar park at the former Creil air base, around 60 kilometres from the centre of Paris.

The award of 17% of the 1,519 megawatts peak that the French authority had put out to tender for ground-mounted solar power plants boosts the company's market share and makes it the leading producer of solar power in the country. The aim now is to increase its market share in the Spanish market as well.
