Tendam to open logistics centre in Spain to cope with expansion

The fashion retail company is investing 25 million euros in this infrastructure.

Tendam is finalising the start-up of a new omnichannel logistics centre in Illescas (Toledo), which is expected to begin operations in the second half of this year and to be fully operational by the beginning of 2025. The former Cortefiel group, owned since 2017 by CVC and PAI Partners funds, will invest more than 25 million euros in an operation that will be strategic to address its future expansion and, especially, the expected growth of its digital business.

The new facility will have 63,000 square metres of storage space, which will increase Tendam's logistics capacity, both in terms of storage and garment output. It will primarily support the digital channel. Designed to optimise operational efficiency, it will enable up to 24 million garments to be manufactured and dispatched each year. It is also planned to expand in a future second phase, with which it could reach 30.2 million garments per year.

Environmental quality certification
The logistics centre occupies a 37,990-square metre site and includes 2,400 square metres of office space. The building has obtained the Leed Platinum environmental quality certification, an international recognition for sustainable buildings. It was conceived as a turnkey project to meet Tendam's needs and specifications.

Among the milestones that have served to obtain this certificate, the building has achieved an energy saving of 59%, a 53% reduction in water consumption and the installation of solar panels and a charging area for electric vehicles. In addition, more than 86% of the waste generated was recovered during the construction phase.

Key markets
Tendam's Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO, Jaume Miquel, explained, "In 2023, Tendam's online revenues exceeded 187 million euros, an increase of almost 9% compared to 2022 and more than 20% compared to 2021. Tendam is well positioned for further growth with the expansion of its digital channel, underpinned by the expected structural increase in online penetration in key markets such as Spain, Portugal and Mexico, where online penetration is relatively low compared to other advanced economies."

Regarding the future activity of the centre, Miquel added, "The new logistics facilities in Illescas will mainly serve the online business of our own and third-party brands and provide us with flexibility for operations resulting from expected future growth."
