A most attractive industry for international investors 

The Spanish chemical sector is a strategic industry for the spanish economy and an important generator of wealth and employment. It comprises more than 3,048 companies, with a turnover of €85.4 billion in 2025, generating over 1 million jobs (direct, indirect, and induced), representing 6.7% of the salaried workforce.

The industry directly creates 226,450 high-quality direct jobs with 94% permanent contracts and over 1 million total jobs, The chemical sector is one of the most productive industries per employee in the economy.

The Chemical sector (including pharma chemicals) accounts for 12% of Spain’s Gross Industrial Product and 4% of national GDP.

It is the 1st largest export sector in Spain with €63 billion in international sales in 2025. 73.7% of Spanish chemical production is exported worldwide.

The chemical sector is among the most innovative industries, investing €2.26 billion annually in R&D&I, representing 23.5% of total industrial innovation investment. It employs 22% of all researchers hired by the industry.

Spain is one of the preferred destinations for new chemical industry projects in Europe ranking 2nd the number of new multinational projects in the EU (2020–2025, FDI Markets). The chemical industry supplies products incorporated into 98% of production processes across the economy. It is one of the industrial sectors with the highest global growth potential, with production expected to increase by 4.5% annually until 2030 to meet international demand.
