GLP increases purchasing and development pace for logistics sites

In 2021, the company acquired 675,000 square metres of land, on which it plans to build 450,000 square metres of new warehouses

The investor and developer of logistics warehouses and distribution parks, GLP, has taken advantage of the new year to take stock and assess its operations in Spain. Over the course of 2021, the company, which has its headquarters in Singapore, added around 675,000 square metres of new land to its portfolio in our country. It plans to develop approximately 450,000 square metres of warehouses on that land over the next two years.

GLP's activities of developing and leasing logistics warehouses have been successful up to now. Its national portfolio has reached 100% occupancy, and its customers include large international companies. Over the course of 2021, it found tenants for a total of 145,695 square metres. 65.4% of this area is currently occupied by eCommerce companies.

Growth forecast
According to its plans for 2022, GLP expects to put 180,000 square metres of newly constructed warehouses onto the market. Its priority areas will continue to be Barcelona and Madrid, as well as the Mediterranean Corridor. The company also has other strategic locations.

That is not all. The company's director in Spain, Óscar Heras, who describes last year’s results as brilliant, states that, in 2022, “multiple logistics projects will be built and we are already working on the acquisition of new plots of land. We will continue to focus on ensuring the sustainability of our projects, something that all our customers are already increasingly demanding.”

In fact, sustainability will be among GLP's commitments to its customers, along with the well-being of people. To that end, all projects implemented by the company have BREEAM certification, which measures the level of buildings' environmental sustainability.

New customers
Among the leases signed in 2021, one of the most noteworthy was with the online store Aosom for a 30,000 square metre warehouse at G-Park Valls (Tarragona). At the end of the year, it announced the forthcoming construction of a state-of-the-art building for another eCommerce company. This will be located on a 70,000 square metre plot at G-Park Villaverde (Madrid).

Another project in development is the construction of a new park, the Magna Park Tauro in Illescas (Toledo). 185,000 square metres will be dedicated to storage space on a 28.6 hectare plot of land, and which stands out because of its close proximity to Madrid. Another project is underway in Catalonia, which will see 24,500 square metres being built. This is G-Park Santa Perpetua, in Santa Perpètua de la Mogoda (Barcelona).
