Axa Insurance to open new medical centre in Cantabria in 2024

The French insurer continues to invest in Mompía Hospital after celebrating its 25th anniversary

Mompía Hospital, a benchmark private health centre in Cantabria, is ending the year of its 25th anniversary with the announcement of its next expansion. The opening of a medical facility in the centre of Santander highlights the importance of the veteran hospital for its owner, the French company Axa Insurance, who will have directly control of it.

The new medical centre will have a surface area of around 800 square metres, divided across three floors. It will have consulting rooms, an emergency department and a physiotherapy department. This marks the start of a new phase in which the new medical centre will provide outpatient support to the hospital, which this year also renovated its emergency department and expanded it by 30% to increase safety in the event of infectious diseases.

Committed to the health business
Luis María Sáez de Jáuregui, Axa Spain's Director of Offerings and Business Lines, who is also a member of Mompía's Board of Directors, said the centre is “a strength and a priority for the Axa group in Spain. With these new facilities, we are promoting our commitment to the health business and reinforcing our commitment to Cantabria. We want to continue to grow, and to do so we will intensify our efforts and investments thanks to the financial backing of a multinational like Axa.”

At a Christmas celebration event that brought together over 200 healthcare professionals in the region, the General Director of Mompía Hospital, Pablo Corral, explained that the institution “has demonstrated that it has been the best private centre in Cantabria for 25 years, and after the modernisation of our emergency facilities we want to continue moving forward to get even closer to our patients.”

Powerful infrastructure
Corral also dedicated a few words to the employees, “We could not be prouder of the commitment shown by the entire team, who have worked to strengthen our leadership in health protection and private healthcare in Cantabria, and who have consolidated us as the powerful healthcare infrastructure that we are in the rest of the country.”

In addition to improving the emergency department, in which over 850,000 euros were invested, the hospital has also undertaken other work to reinforce the service it provides to patients, relatives and employees, such as the installation in July of two charging points that can supply electricity to four electric vehicles simultaneously. One is 22 kilowatts and the other is an ultra-rapid 150 kilowatt point.
