British company Aqdot to produce new modular system in Spain

The company will use its Spanish shareholder Menadiona’s facilities in Barcelona

The British company Aqdot, which specialises in chemical technology, has reached an agreement with the Spanish company Menadiona to install a modular manufacturing system at the latter's facilities in Palafolls (Barcelona). The product to be manufactured in Spain is AqFresh, a new molecule capture and release technology that eliminates odours and contaminants, while releasing a long-lasting fragrance.

Thanks to this agreement, Aqdot will increase its AqFresh manufacturing capacity from 30 tonnes per year to 500 tonnes per year and will be able to meet the growing demand for this product, which is designed to improve indoor air quality. The Catalan plant will thus become the leading manufacturer of Aqfresh.

New jobs
The new modular system being implemented in Palafolls has been designed for easy integration into manufacturers’ installations all over the world. The aim is to facilitate local production and secure the supply chain.

20 new jobs will be created following an investment that Menadiona values at around 5 million euros, with production being scheduled to start this year. As Aqdot CEO Tim Wright explained, “The combination of our revolutionary AqFresh technology and Menadiona's high manufacturing capacity will ensure global supply to our customers, large corporations and leading companies across a wide range of industries and sectors”.

Fifty years’ experience
As part of the agreement, Menadiona, which has two production centres in Spain, has become a shareholder in Aqdot. CEO Carlos Cosin is proud “to use our over 50 years’ in-depth experience in speciality chemical manufacturing to sustainably produce complex chemicals like AqFresh on a large scale”.

Later this year, Menadiona, a family-owned company founded in 1970, will add it to a product portfolio that includes speciality chemicals, active ingredients and organic intermediates for a wide range of sectors, such as pharmaceuticals, veterinary products, cosmetics and agricultural chemicals.
