Holcim enters Spanish industrialised construction sector

Swiss group buys 54% of Spanish precast specialist Artepref

The manufacturer and distributor of cement and aggregates for construction Holcim has reached an agreement with Artepref to acquire 54% of its share capital. This transaction represents the Swiss company's entry into the industrialised building sub-sector, thereby expanding its solutions and product segment.

Spanish company Artepref specialises in manufacturing and supplying innovative precast concrete structures, floor systems and cladding systems that are commonly used in the construction of industrial, commercial and logistics buildings.

Innovative and sustainable solutions
The business model for Artepref, whose headquarters are located in Aranda de Duero (Burgos), ranges from designing and producing prefabricated parts to assembling them on site. It currently employs over 250 people. For Artepref, which will retain its management, corporate name and brand name, Holcim's contribution to its share capital will strengthen its position in the precast market.

It will at the same time, have access to its new partner’s know-how, which will help it to evolve in the field of innovative and sustainable solutions. The incorporation of Holcim's philosophy will in fact give a boost to low carbon footprint cements and concretes in the industrialising construction process in Spain.

Decarbonising the industry
The deal comes as a first step in the Swiss company's 2025 strategy to accelerate green growth. It aims to increase the weight of its solutions and products business to 30% of its net sales by next year. According to some sources, industrialised solutions with low carbon footprint precast concrete will be key to decarbonising the industry.

The CEO of Holcim España, Carmen Díaz, interprets the Swiss group's participation in Artepref as “a firm commitment by the company to decarbonising new construction in Spain. In this way, we want to offer a comprehensive value proposition to our customers, providing innovative, sustainable and circular responses to industry trends.”

Artepref's President, Gerardo de la Calle Ortega, did In turn say, “An opportunity is knocking on our door that we can't let pass, joining a leading global group like Holcim, contributing our technology and participating in a project for the future”.
