Artis Biosolutions opens a genetic medicines centre in Vizcaya
It manufactures products ranging from synthetic DNA and mRNA active pharmaceutical ingredient to lipid nanoparticles (LNP) to advance innovative medicines.
US company Artis Biosolutions has opened a new centre of excellence for genetic medicines in Bilbao (Vizcaya), where it manufactures products ranging from synthetic DNA and mRNA active pharmaceutical ingredient to lipid nanoparticles (LNP). The facility integrates these capabilities alongside targeted delivery and pharmaceutical product manufacturing under good manufacturing practice (GMP) standards.
Through this initiative, Artis aims to help advance innovative genetic medicines from the early stages of development through to commercial supply. The new centre expands its integrated development and manufacturing capabilities and strengthens its position as a technological innovator and leading manufacturer of next-generation genetic medicines.
Contract development and manufacturing
The Bilbao centre’s integrated development and manufacturing platform includes synthetic DNA, the manufacture of mRNA active pharmaceutical ingredients, lipid nanoparticle (LNP) formulation and manufacturing services, and the manufacture of pharmaceutical products in accordance with good manufacturing practice (GMP) standards.
Combining all these capabilities is expected to enhance customer engagement and optimise contract development and manufacturing (CDMO) services, as well as reduce the burdens associated with technology transfer and accelerate partners’ programmes more efficiently, from early-stage development through to clinical trials and commercialisation.
Transformative therapies
In the words of Brian Neel, Executive Officer of Artis BioSolutions, “by combining synthetic deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) and lipid nanoparticle (LNP) technologies, together with manufacturing in accordance with good manufacturing practice (GMP), within a single organisation, we create a seamless platform that enables our clients to progress more rapidly, reduce complexity and costs, and accelerate the delivery of transformative therapies to patients worldwide at a record pace”.
Artis’s new Centre of Excellence for Genetic Medicines is designed to offer customers a more coordinated development pathway, as they often face challenges relating to timelines, costs and risks when dealing with multiple suppliers. In this case, as the company’s Chief Commercial Officer, Peter Stolba, explains, it is “a single strategic partner covering everything from starting materials to commercialisation. These capabilities, combined with our synthetic DNA platform, create a seamless, state-of-the-art development and manufacturing process for genetic medicines. This allows our clients to focus on advancing innovative science, while Artis provides the expertise and scalability needed to bring new therapies and vaccines to patients more quickly”.
