Its launch will create highly skilled jobs in areas such as engineering and innovation.

The Chery Group has officially opened its European operations center, which has been set up in Barcelona and is the company’s first regional hub outside China. The group’s European business will be managed from these new facilities, covering everything from operations to regulatory compliance, supply chain coordination, finance, and public affairs. The company describes this opening as a crucial milestone in its globalization strategy.

Chery Auto currently operates in 18 European markets, where it serves more than 100,000 customers, and the company anticipates significant growth in the coming years. In the first two months of this year, it sold 39,000 units in Europe, a 200% increase over the same period last year. One out of every five cars exported by the manufacturer reaches Europe, which does in turn produces one out of every five automobiles exported by China.

Research and development in Barcelona
The new regional center also houses the Spanish R&D Institute, which was inaugurated during the same ceremony. Its work will focus on electrification, smart mobility, and sustainable development, as well as exploring other alternative technologies, and aligning with European standards on data protection, environmental responsibility, and regulatory compliance.

The launch of this R&D center and the European operations center will create highly skilled jobs in areas such as engineering, innovation, product development, and local operations. The company also plans to collaborate with local institutions and help drive the development of Barcelona’s industrial ecosystem.

Strategic hub to drive innovation
Beyond being a cornerstone of its globalization strategy, Europe is a strategic hub for the Chery Group to drive innovation, strengthen competitiveness, and achieve sustainable development. As Chery Holding Group Chairman Yin Tongyue explained at the inauguration of both centers, by choosing Barcelona to coordinate its operations on the continent, “we hope to create a system that understands Europe better and serves the European market better.”

Chery Auto’s relationship with Barcelona dates back to 2024, when it partnered with EV Motors to relaunch the Spanish brand Ebro. This collaboration helped revitalize an idle factory and created more than 1000 jobs.
