American Express to double its workforce in Spain

It will hire 300 people to provide services to the whole of continental Europe from Spain

The Spanish subsidiary of American Express is launching a center of business excellence, as explained recently by Juan Orti, executive chairman and CEO of American Express in Spain, in an interview published in Expansión. This will consist of a team of salespeople dedicated to offering the company's services to potential customers in 20 countries.

They currently have a team formed by employees from as many as 30 different nationalities, which the company plans to reinforce in order to approach potential customers in three business lines: SMEs, affiliation and loyalty-building for businesses. Orti estimates that the salesforce will ultimately reach 600 employees, and says that many of the new hires will have highly qualified and multilingual profiles.

Anti-fraud management
In addition, the Spanish division has a specific area to offer anti-fraud management services in e-commerce. Based on artificial intelligence, this unit also provides service to countries in Europe and others outside the continent.

Orti explained in the same interview that due to Brexit, the American company has chosen Spain to give continuity to its operations in continental Europe after the finalization of the divorce. Two licenses have therefore been established in Spain: one for the issuing business and another for the acquiring business, with the aim of providing service to most of the member states. These are two of American Express's most important activities, as they affect both the issue of cards to its different types of customers and its processing of retail card transactions.
